Day 8 of 28: Springerville, AZ to Socorro, NM
155 miles—4,500 feet of climbing and just over 9 hours in the saddle. We averaged over 17 mph, which I could not have managed without the Vermont crew pulling me all day—thank you! Dennis and Jacki were a big help too the 1st half of the day and Steve has been so helpful throughout this ride even though I cannot keep up with him!
We crossed into New Mexico today—two states down! We also lost an hour to the time change. We had cooler temps in the morning, a hard rainstorm with pellets in the afternoon along with some warm weather near the end of the ride with some strong headwinds for a little bit. Tomorrow brings another big day of climbing and over 100 miles. Some easier days are on the horizon, but for now it’s all about recovery because we ride again in the morning!
Highlights today: a beautiful 15 mile downhill at the end of today’s ride—some pics below.
I should have a fundraising update on Friday or Saturday—we are doing great—thank you. Also, the Lions tickets were auctioned for $655!
Good night from Socorro!
