“The Goal of 300”

Lon Haldeman, founder of PAC Tour and a pioneer in ultra-endurance cycling, knows what it takes to ride across the country because he has literally done it 100 times! His minimum recommendation for a chance at success? Ride 300+ miles per week at an average pace of 15 mph or more, for eight straight weeks leading up to the start.

It took time and discipline to get here, but I’ve taken his advice to heart. I’ve been hitting that benchmark for the last 2 weeks with 6 weeks to go—putting in the miles, following the plan, and so far, it’s paying off.

Here’s what the training looks like: Training_Goal of 300.pdf - Google Drive

My riding stats for last week:

I was able to ride with the FMCC peeps on Tuesday in Detroit and the Michigan Gravel Grinders on Friday—very different rides. My highlight ride last week was a solo ride from home to Battle Creek—114 miles, 15.5 mph average, mostly paved roads with a lot of rolling hills and a few new paths. A few pics from that ride below.
