Day 12 of 28: Clovis, NM to Amarillo, TX

119 miles, about 7 hours in the saddle with 1,200 feet of climbing.

Made it to Texas! All good, but we lose an hour while getting closer to EST. Rode 838 miles this week and climbed almost 30,000 feet—both records for me obviously. We had crosswinds for most of the day today and not much of a tailwind. I used aero bars for the 1st time this tour which gave my hands a break and actually gave my quads and knees little rest too when I was pulling or in the back of the pack. I rode almost all of the way with Bob, Fred, Howard, and Jacki—great company and we worked very well together cutting through the wind.

The gps stopped just before the end of today’s ride because my cell phone went dead—then I was a little delayed getting into my room—appreciate you following along and I know many of you were concerned.

In addition to a great ride and getting some cool train videos for our grandson today, the highlight was dinner at the infamous Big Texas Steakhouse, where we watched a guy take on the 72 oz steak challenge! Most of the group attended and I joined John and Kim for dinner, which was a rare chance this past week to sit down and enjoy good conversation over a meal while not riding.

Tomorrow is a “shorter” 93 miles to Shamrock. Hoping to catch the Lions game tomorrow night! Take care!
